Starting My Career
The foundation for your future career started at Lincoln. You’ve worked hard, studied even harder, and now it’s time for your dreams to become a reality. Starting a new job is so exciting, and marks a new chapter in your life, but it’s also a time of adjustment in your new role.
Below are some things you can expect on your first day on the job:
- Meeting with Human Resources and reviewing policies and procedures.
- Orientation: Learning the history of the company and background.
- Meeting new co-workers.
- Getting a feel for the company and the people who work there.
- Learning your surroundings, and becoming accustomed to a new schedule.
- Knowing your work schedule.
- Understanding what is expected of you in your new title/role.
Plus, it’s typical to find you may encounter some of these feelings or situations at a new job.
- Learning who’s who – trying to remember names and titles.
- Excitement in your new role.
- Eagerness to learn as much as you can.
- Expecting to not know everything – and that’s okay. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed at first. Be comfortable with not knowing everything - you’re new, and your employer understands this.
- Adjusting to your new routine and schedule.
- Hesitance to ask for help – Be assured your employer wants you to ask questions. It shows you are taking the initiative to clearly understand your role and expectations.
- Taking notes and writing down things you might need more clarity on.
- Learning the ropes of the inter-workings of the office.
- Feeling like the “new kid” in the office – Don’t worry, as time goes on, you’ll adapt and feel more comfortable. And before you know it, you’ll feel like you’re apart of the team!
