Initiative To Increase Domestic Manufacturing Boosts Demand For CNC Machinists
FOX Business' Lauren Simonetti visits Lincoln Tech’s Mahwah campus to learn how the school is helping our economy meet the goal of boosting domestic manufacturing by answering the demand for skilled manufacturing technicians. In this segment, she shows off the “Co-bot” that CNC students say works as a co-worker, and that for each machine, there are 4 jobs that are required to support the process. She states that there are about one-half million jobs at US factories that are currently open due to demand for skilled machinists.
Lauren interviews Nick Lombardi, the Education Director at Lincoln’s Mahwah campus, who states that “instead of spending $150,000 to $200,000 on something you are guessing you want to do, you can learn a skilled trade, become a subject matter expert..”; Lauren then points out that for about 12 months’ time and about $30,000, a student can learn a trade that can net them a job with a starting salary of $25 to $30 per hour.
