Founded in 1902 as Greer Automotive College, Lincoln Tech’s Melrose Park auto mechanic school has helped tens of thousands of auto technicians begin new careers over the course of its history. By 2026, there are more than 30,000 positions projected to open for auto techs in Illinois*. Earn an Automotive Technology diploma, take advantage of a specialized partnership program with Audi, or graduate with an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Service Management to increase your earning potential. After graduation, you can also choose to continue your training by applying for additional manufacturer training programs offered by BMW and MINI**. Whichever program you choose, you’ll receive quality instruction in real-world equipment, and learn from professionals who know what it takes to succeed.

With 16 auto bays, nine lifts, nine “drive-in” classrooms and an Auto Web Tech Lab, students have all the resources they need to practice diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques, as well as the repair and maintenance of today’s cars, trucks, and SUVs.

Skills Acquired at Our Melrose Park, IL Auto Technology School

  • Rebuild an engine, flush a brake line, and troubleshoot on-board computers.
  • Diagnose and repair transmissions and drive train components.
  • Repair A/C and heating systems, power windows, doors, and seats.
  • Perform basic maintenance, including oil changes, tune-ups, and tire rotations.
  • Study theory and application of automotive electrical and electronic systems.
  • Apply mechanical and technical principles to automotive steering, alignment, and suspension systems.

 ASE, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, tests and certifies professionals for excellence in automotive repair and service.
