On June 26th we celebrate National Beautician Day. The word beautician dates back to the early 1920’s, and a lot has changed in the industry over the last 100 years! We understand hair color better. We have new processes for straightening and relaxing textured hair. Electric blow dryers and curling irons come in many different shapes and sizes. We even have brushes that dry your hair as you brush through it. There is, however, one thing that hasn’t changed: how we impact the lives of our clients.
In today’s society of electronic dependency for communication and apps for everything under the sun – not to mention social media – something gets lost on the human level. Have you ever seen a table of people out for dinner and no one is talking to each other? They are more involved in their phones than with each other. The Beautician, however, is safe in knowing that we are in a profession that is so much more than a post on Facebook or Instagram.
National Beautician Day is a great time to remember the human connection
As Beauticians, our touch is calming and relaxing; it builds trust and contributes to the overall well-being of the clients we serve. We have a listening ear and a comfortable chair. The human touch is so very important and we practice it every day when our clients sit in our chairs. So the next time you need a little something, sit back, relax and enjoy the experience of the human touch and maybe, just maybe, turn your phone off.
This year, let National Beautician Day be the day you take your life in an exciting new direction: explore hands-on training for careers in the beauty industry at Euphoria Institute!
