Job Placement Rates for Graduates Soar in Mahwah
When you make an investment in training for a new career, it doesn’t matter what field you’re pursuing – you want to train at a school that gets results. And at Lincoln Tech’s Mahwah campus – where students can train for careers in Automotive, Manufacturing, HVAC and Electronics – the results speak for themselves. Four out of five Lincoln Tech graduates are moving on to careers in their chosen field within six months of graduation*, with the help of the school’s Career Services team and their excellent job placement results!
Job Placement Team
For 22 years, Nella Santangelo has been the face of that team – as Director of Career Services and Corporate Partnerships in Mahwah, she has helped thousands of students change their futures with solid, rewarding new career opportunities.
“You will not be successful without passion for what you do,” Nella says. It’s a powerful life lesson that she passes on to her students, and the numbers her team produces are a direct reflection of her motto. Under Nella’s guidance, passion, and hard work, the Mahwah team has enjoyed Lincoln Tech’s highest job placement rate for seven years running.
Nearly 87% of Mahwah campus graduates are placed in careers in their field – and included in that figure is a 93% job placement rate for Auto Technicians alone. Why such a high job placement rate year after year? In part, because Nella gets to know the students she’s placing and has screened them for potential companies that she’s built a relationship with throughout the years.
A self-described “go-getter,” Nella began cultivating relationships with companies when the Mahwah campus opened by cold calling and showing up on site to personally introduce herself. Throughout the years, she has extended the invitation for companies to visit the Mahwah campus and see for themselves everything that’s offered to the students.
“When employers show up and see the selection of programs and all the shops on site, they are impressed with the entire school,” she says. “They believe in Lincoln Tech graduates because they trust me and I believe in our students.”
By getting to know her students, Nella is able to screen them for potential companies seeking to hire. From these cultivated relationships, she is able to fit the pieces of the puzzle together and find that perfect match between potential employee and employer.
John Durkin of Jack Daniels Motors in Upper Saddle River has worked with Nella for 10 years and knows firsthand how important the relationship with Nella and the Mahwah Career Services team has been. “This area is a hotbed of automotive dealerships,” he says. “Nella’s relationships with them are very strong – she’s pleasant, knowledgeable, professional and any other positive attribute you can think of.”
Mike Ciccone at Prestige Motors Lexus in Ramsey echoes those sentiments. “My experience with Nella have all been positive,” he says. “She and her team are successful because she is relentless. She looks in every corner to find placements for her students.”
Anthony Christiano graduated from the Mahwah Automotive Technology program in 1998 and credits Nella with helping him launch his career. He’s now the Fixed Operations Manager at Mercedes Benz of Manhattan. “Nella was instrumental in helping me find a job,” Anthony explains. “She encouraged me to go to Mercedes when I was looking at other places. She knew what was right for me. She knows how to navigate you towards what is best for you as an individual. She lets students know what they need to accomplish in terms of attendance and GPA, and she pairs that with the right employers.”
Other dealers that hire Mahwah campus graduates include the Paul Miller Group and the Ramsey Auto Group. Nella and her team maintain excellent relationships with HVAC companies such as Hughes Environmental, the Van Natta Mechanical Corporation, and Air Group. The campus recently entered into an agreement with Miele, Inc. to provide specific training and post-graduation opportunities to students in the Electronic Systems Technician and HVAC programs, and local manufacturers such as Stryker often reach out to Nella seeking new graduates from the Haas-sponsored CNC Machining and Manufacturing program.
Nella will be the first to say that a successful Career Services office is hardly a one-person show - she says she has felt continuous support from all levels of the school. “Without my team’s support, I couldn’t do my job,” she says. “With it, I can do anything!”
