diesel racing

When it comes to diesel truck racing at Englishtown, no one does it better than the student team from Lincoln Tech in South Plainfield, NJ! The team has won first place in its class every year since 2013, and they’ve done it in a truck they rebuilt on campus!

The truck was initially rebuilt from the ground up by diesel technology students at the Lincoln Tech campus from 2011-2012. Campus Director of Education Tim O’Connor took an old R Model Mack truck that had been parked on campus and challenged the students, along with their instructors, to bring it to life in time for the 2012 Diesel Nationals competition.

Industry partners contributed parts and equipment for the effort, and many of those partners’ logos can be seen on the truck. Hawks Towing and Collision of Trenton, NJ, for example, gave the truck a fresh paint job.  Atlantic-Detroit Diesel in Piscataway came up with the transmission.  The engine was shipped more than 1,100 miles from a scrap yard in Florida.  But it was the hard work and dedication of the Lincoln Tech students and staff that made the project possible and turned it into a diesel racing champion.

Hands-on career training with added horsepower

Having the chance to work on projects like the South Plainfield diesel racing truck is just one of the many advantages to beginning a diesel career training program at Lincoln Tech. Students build hands-on experience working with the engines and mechanical systems of today’s diesel trucks and other kinds of equipment.  Thanks to its location at the heart of the Northeast Corridor shipping artery, the campus maintains close working relationships with many of the area’s top employers.  And through a partnership with Thermo King East, students can opt to add Transport Refrigeration courses to their diesel career training – opening even more doors to new careers after graduation!

If you’ve got a love for diesel racing and diesel power and are looking to start on the road to an exciting, challenging new career, it’s time to check out Lincoln Tech in South Plainfield!
