NCLEX Preparation is an Important Part of your Nursing Education
We've all taken more tests than we can count, but for aspiring Practical Nurses, no test is more important than the NCLEX-PN exam. NCLEX preparation is critical – the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses is used to test Practical Nursing graduates. The exam ensures new hires have the competencies required to safely perform their duties. And while you can retake the exam if you don’t pass on the first attempt, that means delaying the start of your new career. So it’s best to be prepared when you go in for the test.
NCLEX preparation tips for a head start
If you plan to become a Practical Nurse, it's best to prepare for the NCLEX-PN so that you can pass it the first time around. Here's a handful of tips to help you get ready.
Know what types of questions to expect
The NCLEX-PN incorporates medical, surgical, pediatric, psychiatric and obstetric topic-related questions. Most questions are in multiple-choice format, but alternative question types could include fill-in-the-blank, "select all that apply," and chart/exhibit questions.
Understand how the test questions are formed
The NCLEX-PN uses Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) technology to develop unique questions for each individual. Each question is formed based on your previous response. For example, if you answer a question correctly, the test asks you a slightly more difficult question. The number of questions you answer and your competency level determine whether you pass or fail.
Enroll in a program that prepares you with hands-on experience
Lincoln Tech's Practical Nursing Training offers real-world experience to ensure you have skills and knowledge needed to perform well on the NCLEX-PN exam. Take practice tests online
You can find many free practice tests online to help you get ready for the exam. While you shouldn't rely only on these practice exams to prepare, these study aids do help set expectations before the test day.
