Lincoln Tech Chicago grads lead Lexus service team

Lincoln Tech’s Melrose Park campus – located just outside the heart of Chicago – has a long history of impacting the region’s automotive workforce. Since 1902, when it opened as Greer College of Automotive Engineering, the campus has been the school of choice for students looking to turn their love of cars into exciting in-demand careers. This spring, two of those graduates returned to campus with the goal of helping a new generation of auto technicians fulfill that dream.
Harold Berman and Jerry Delgado, two members of the campus’ Hall of Fame, now work for a popular Chicago-area Lexus dealership and know what it takes to succeed in the world of Automotive Technology. As Berman looks ahead to retirement and to “passing the torch” to Delgado, these two alumni visited the campus for a June career fair and interviewed upcoming graduates for job openings at their shop.
Employers Turn to Lincoln Tech for Candidates
Berman graduated from the campus in 1977, when it still carried the Greer name. An ASE Master Technician, he worked as a Parts Manager and Master Diagnostic Specialist for several Chicago-area dealerships before joining his current employer, McGrath Lexus, at the beginning of 1998. Now the shop foreman, Berman can look back on the hundreds of new technicians he’s had the opportunity to hire and mentor over the last 40 years. Many of those new hires have been Lincoln Tech graduates.
Delgado was one of those grads. He joined the McGrath dealership family in 2009 after stints at Pep Boys and an Infiniti dealership. A veteran of the U.S. Marines, he graduated from the Melrose Park campus in 2001 with perfect attendance and a 4.0 GPA. His current responsibilities as Express Service Manager include recruiting, hiring, and training new technicians. Like Berman, he looks to give Lincoln Tech graduates with opportunities as often as possible.
With a history spanning 117 years, the Lincoln Tech campus which serves the Chicago area has helped countless local employers build their workforces – not only in Automotive Technology but also in Collision Repair and Refinishing. If you’re in the Chicagoland region, you can put your potential to work by starting on the road to a fun, rewarding career with training from Lincoln Tech.
