Technology is rapidly evolving and transforming today’s most important industries. In both the high and low-voltage electrical fields, for example, this evolution towards more complex – and, in many cases, environmentally-friendly – systems keeps demand high for trained, qualified technicians.
Electrician jobs in Illinois are growing thanks in part to a rise in residential and commercial construction. There’s a significant need for technicians with the right skills, and the field is expected to add nearly 6,000 jobs around the state of Illinois by 2024.*
Lincoln Tech Training Addresses the Electrician Skills Gap
To meet the demand for trained electricians, Lincoln Tech in Melrose Park has broadened its hands-on electronics career training program to include high-voltage electrical instruction in its new Electrical and Electronic Systems Technology (EEST) Service Management training program. Like all of Lincoln’s programs, EEST training will emphasize not only hands-on technical skills, but also professional skills that help graduates stand out to employers.
Recent Melrose Park graduate Allan Baron, now a professional electronic systems technician at Alarm Security Link, credits his hands-on training with helping him turn his life around. “Lincoln wants to help you and they don’t give up on you,” he says. “They want you to succeed.”
Baron is one of many Lincoln Tech graduates who have secured jobs installing, repairing and maintaining home theater equipment, whole home automation networks, closed circuit security systems, cable TV and more. Students train with professional-grade tools, practice in on-campus “Smart Houses” that mirror real-world settings, learn from industry-experienced professionals, and are prepared for what’s expected of them as candidates when they graduate.
